Terms of Service
Welcome. By using Sidelay, you agree to these terms. We’ve tried to keep them short and human. If anything’s unclear, write to us at hello@sidelay.com and we’ll explain.
What Sidelay is
Sidelay is a Chrome extension and web application that lets teams leave pinned comments and run automated accessibility, SEO, and performance checks on any website they can view in their browser. It’s operated by Périmètre, a digital product consultancy based in Montréal, Québec, Canada.
Your account
You need an account to use most of Sidelay’s features. You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe, and for everything that happens under your account. Don’t share your account with people who shouldn’t have access. If you think your account has been compromised, let us know right away.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you’re using Sidelay on behalf of an organization, you’re telling us you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.
What you can do with Sidelay
Pretty much anything that helps you and your team review websites:
- Leave comments on pages your team is building or auditing
- Share review sessions with clients and collaborators
- Run automated diagnostics on pages you have a legitimate reason to inspect
- Export feedback to your tools and processes
What you can’t do with Sidelay
A short list of things we don’t allow, mostly because they hurt other people:
- Use Sidelay to harass, dox, or threaten anyone
- Crawl or scrape websites you don’t have permission to access
- Run our diagnostics on sites in ways that overload them or look like an attack
- Reverse-engineer Sidelay, except where the law explicitly permits it
- Sell, resell, or sublicense access to your Sidelay account
- Upload malicious code or content that violates applicable law
If you do any of these, we may suspend or close your account. We’ll usually warn you first, but we don’t have to if the situation is serious.
Your content
Comments, screenshots, and other material you put into Sidelay are yours. By using Sidelay, you give us a limited license to store and display that content so we can actually run the service. We don’t sell it, we don’t train AI models on it, and we don’t share it outside what’s necessary to provide Sidelay to you and the people you’ve invited.
Service availability
We work hard to keep Sidelay up and running, but we can’t promise it’s never down. We may occasionally take it offline for maintenance, fix issues, or roll out updates. If there’s a major incident, we’ll be honest about what happened.
Changes to Sidelay
We’ll keep improving Sidelay over time, which means features may change or disappear. If we remove something important to you, we’ll give you reasonable notice and, where we can, a way to export your data.
Pricing and payment
Sidelay is currently free while we get it in front of more people. When we introduce paid plans, current users will get a heads-up before any charges apply. See our Cancellation Policy and Refund Policy for what happens when you stop paying or want a refund.
Termination
You can stop using Sidelay any time. We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we’re required to by law, or if we decide to wind down the service. If we close your account for breaking these terms, the license you gave us to your content ends and we’ll delete it on a reasonable schedule.
Liability
Sidelay is provided as is. We do our best, but we can’t promise it’s perfect or that it will catch every accessibility, SEO, or performance issue. Don’t rely on Sidelay as your only line of defence. Within the limits of the law, our total liability to you is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the previous twelve months, or fifty Canadian dollars.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada. Disputes go to the courts of the judicial district of Montréal.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll let active users know by email or a notice in the app. The version date at the top of this page tells you when the current terms took effect.
